AirAsia and AirAsiaX to merge?

I'm wondering if AirAsiaX is doing well or not ... AirAsia X CEO backs merger with AirAsia Bhd By B.K. SIDHU Azran: Merger will let AirAsia tap into long-haul markets SEPANG: A merger between AirAsia X and AirAsia Bhd makes business sense and the combined balance sheet would make sourcing for future funding much easier, said AirAsia X chief executive officer Azran Osman-Rani. "It would be difficult for AirAsia in the future if it did not have trunk routes as (this) is where the traffic volumes come from, so AirAsia needs growth from AirAsia X and the merger allows it to tap growth opportunities in the long-haul markets," Azran told StarBiz in an interview. "AirAsia cannot continue to just criss-cross and enter new markets, it needs a bigger base,'' he added. Given the nature of the business, which is counter-cyclical, a large base was necessary to balance the routes in peak and non-peak months, he said. That is why AirAsia X has to sell beyond Kuala Lumpur ...

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- AirAsia X, the long haul, low fare affiliate of AirAsia, today announced the withdrawal of services to India (Mumbai and Delhi) and Europe (Paris, London) from its Kuala Lumpur hub, as part of a network realignment. The realignment is to focus on its core markets, AirAsiaX said in a statement. The last flight of the four weekly services to Mumbai is on Jan 31. As for New Delhi, the last flight is on March 22. Flights in March will also be reduced to four weekly services. The last flight to London is on March 31 while for Paris, it is March 30. AirAsia X is offering guests who hold bookings after these dates an alternative travel option at no additional cost, to mitigate the inconvenience caused as a result of the route withdrawals. AirAsia X axes flights to London, Paris, New Delhi and Mumbai (Part 1)

This is really a bad news! :( AirAsia X axes flights and the real loser is the traveller Friday Reflections - By B.K. Sidhu LONDON, Paris, New Delhi and Mumbai are off limits to low fares after March. AirAsia X (AAX) finally dropped a bombshell yesterday saying it was axing those routes. Mumbai will be off its radar screen by end-January and the rest in March. This has come after the airline's denial on cuts. I first broke the news on Dec 10 that AAX was "looking at giving up some routes, such as Mumbai and Europe, in exchange for Sydney and some China routes.'' Many of us can still remember the excitement when AirAsia head honco Tan Sri Tony Fernandes announced that AAX would fly people to London for as low as RM9.90 one way in 2007. Then AAX brought smiles to so many faces. However, yesterday it only brought sadness. Students studying in Britain had been happy and so were their relatives and friends. It was like a dream come true because at premium a...

AirAsia and Jetstar deals on

I wonder how's the deal gonna work out ... PETALING JAYA: The proposed partnership between AirAsia Bhd and Jetstar is nearing fruition after a year of talks and the deal will be announced in the first week of January. A media conference has been scheduled for Jan 6 in Sydney where both parties and Qantas will announce the details of a strategic agreement and how these parties will work "innovatively together'' so as to drive greater cost efficiencies across AirAsia and Jetstar. One route that may be shared is the KL-Sydney sector which AirAsia has failed thus far to get rights to ply. Jetstar, even though it has stopped plying the route since September 2008, has the rights. Will that rights be shared by AirAsia? The Kangaroo route (from any Australian point to KL and on to Europe) is a possible route that these airlines will capitalise on and with the partnership, AirAsia will be able to offer connectivity all over Australia via Jetstar Australia and it can tak...

AirAsia and Jetstar form alliance

MELBOURNE: AirAsia says its alliance with Qantas Airways' subsidiary, Jetstar, could potentially generate costsavings worth hundreds of millions of dollars and result in lower fares. Under the alliance formed in Sydney Wednesday, Jetstar and AirAsia would explore opportunities to jointly procure next generation narrowbody aircraft, cooperate in passenger handling in Australia and Asia, pool aircraft components and spare parts and jointly acquire engineering and maintenance supplies and services. The airlines said the alliance would reduce costs, pool expertise and result in cheaper fares. AirAsia Group Chief Executive Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes said the alliance showed lowcost carriers could work together to stimulate the market and to operate on lower fares. "The key thrust is to increase our efficiency and find ways of getting even lower fares. From this I believe we will then move into revenue ideas and we've already got a few that we've been discussing," Fernan...

AirAsia website upgrade - service unavailability

AirAsia upgraded their systems between June and July and the outcome is worst than before. 1 ) I believe the eVoucher redemption is still screw up especially for Citibank AirAsia credit card customers. 2) The section to book tickets failed to load. Tested with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. 3) Failed to retrieve my bookings As I pointed out earlier , AirAsia should look seriously into their IT infrastructure. The COO/CIO should take responsibility for the failures above. But I wonder if Tony Fernandes does ever care! From a brand I used to be proud of, now AirAsia has become the top worst brand in my list.

Flying to Singapore - AirAsia, Jetstar or Tiger Airways?

I run a quick check on the flight tickets to Singapore and compare the prices among the budget airlines providers - AirAsia, Jetstar and Tiger Airways. And here's my findings: I would say it's so affordable to fly to Singapore nowadays! AirAsia @ RM 158 Jetstar @ RM 175 Tiger Airways @ RM 114 Jetstar's price does include the 20kg cabin check in, free seat selection and departing from KLIA and while AirAsia and Tiger Airways don't and they are flying from LCCT. So which one would you choose?

Captain of AirAsia QZ8501 'out of his seat' before plane lost control: Report

SINGAPORE: The captain of AirAsia Flight QZ8501, which crashed into the Java Sea on Dec 28, 2014, had left his seat before the plane lost control, according to Reuters on Saturday (Jan 31). Captain Iriyanto "was out of his seat conducting an unorthodox procedure when his co-pilot apparently lost control, and by the time he returned it was too late to save the plane", two unnamed sources familiar with the investigation told Reuters. On Thursday, the country's National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) revealed that the  French co-pilot, Remi Plesel, was flying the plane  when the aircraft went down, rather than Captain Iriyanto, an experienced former fighter pilot. "The second-in-command was the pilot flying," chief investigator Mardjono Siswosuwarno told reporters in Jakarta, adding that the captain was monitoring the flight. The flight was en route from Surabaya to Singapore before it crashed into the sea, killing all 162 people on board. Seventy-two bodie...

A review of Malaysia participating in F1 2010

Good review here. Though I'm a big fan of Tony Fernandes, I'm too skeptical on the outcome of this multi-million ringgit investment. F1 entry – good timing or big risk? By YEOW POOI LING EYEBROWS were raised when news broke that Malaysia is participating in the Formula One (F1) race next year via the Lotus F1 team. The team is a collaboration between the Government and a group of entrepreneurs linked to AirAsia Bhd and the Naza Group, with Proton Holdings Bhd's British subsidiary, Lotus as the constructor. Sceptics are many, especially since big names in the auto world such as Honda and BMW have withdrawn their participation from the sport due to the global economic crisis. As the United States and countries across Europe and Asia are still trying to revive their economies, why would Malaysia choose this time to join one of the world's most expensive sports? More importantly, who is forking out the money? Let's talk money F1 is well known for its huge spend...
