PSC's recommendations for electoral reform

Report by PSC on electoral reform accepted by Parliament KUALA LUMPUR: The interim report by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reform, which has 10 recommendations, has been debated and accepted by the Dewan Rakyat. The 115-page report, which was debate in Parliament Thursday, can be implemented immediately as it does not require any change to existing laws. The Dewan Rakyat first approved the motion for PSC on electoral reform on Oct 3. The first PSC public hearing was held on Nov 11 at the Parliament House, while the second was in Sabah for two days (Nov 25-26). The recommendations included the use of indelible ink to prevent multiple voting, allowing voting by Malaysians living abroad and allowing Sabahans and Sarawakians working in the peninsular to vote from here. On the use of indelible ink, the committee said there was no need to amend the Federal Constitution to use the ink, making it the EC's responsibility to "expedite" changes to election ru

Bad IT project implementation

JPJ's path to IT hits snag PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department's path to advanced information technology has hit a snag, according to the Auditor-General's Report 2010. Its information technology building (PTM) in Cyberjaya was completed in March 2009 but the revamp of its computer system, which was planned eight years ago, has yet to take place. There were also hiccups in getting the building ready due to construction delays, water seepage problems, and defects to the walls, ceiling and floors which had to be repaired after the building was completed. Furthermore, the building, which was to house JPJ's mainframe and become its data and command centre, has no security fence as it had not been declared a "restricted area", the report said. The report said the tender process for the revamp of its computer software and system took longer than the entire construction period. The cost of the project, which started on Oct 1, 2007, increased by about R

Hit and run at KLSE

Always cautious. Do not fall into the trap. A RESURGENCE of interest in low-priced stocks, as traders actively hunt for the next big run in the local stock market, has thrown several penny counters into the limelight in recent weeks. According to Bursa Malaysia's record, at least six unusual market activity (UMA) queries have already been issued since the start of this month to penny-stock counters for the steep increase in their prices and sudden surge in volume. These include textile and chemical producer Maxbiz Corp Bhd; technology services provider GPRO Technologies Bhd; timber manufacturer Harvest Court Industries Bhd; plastic injection mould fabricator Sanichi Technologies Bhd; oil and gas investment holding company Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd; and consumer products trader Emico Holdings Bhd. Congrats to Nicol David who wins the sixth world title!

A big congratulations to Nicol - one of the best athlete which Malaysia ever produced, at least in the last 20 years. ROTTERDAM: Nicol David created history by winning her sixth world title in emphatic fashion at the Luxor Theatre here yesterday with the promise of more to come. The undisputed queen of world squash was in devastating form as she pulverised long-time rival and world No. 2 Jenny Duncalf of England 11-2, 11-5, 11-0 in just 29 minutes in the final of the World Open. It was a perfect six for Nicol – six wins from six finals at the world meet, making her the most successful woman player in the history of the game. Opportunity is just next to you!

Russell Conwell - Acres of Diamonds "Acres of Diamonds" originated as a speech which Conwell delivered over 6,000 times around the world. It was first published in 1890 by the John Y. Huber Company of Philadelphia. The central idea of the work is that one need not look elsewhere for opportunity, achievement, or fortune—the resources to achieve all good things are present in one's own community . This theme is developed by an introductory anecdote, told to Conwell by an Arab guide, about a man who wanted to find diamonds so badly that he sold his property and went off in futile search for them; the new owner of his home discovered that a rich diamond mine was located right there on the property. Conwell elaborates on the theme through examples of success, genius, service, or other virtues involving ordinary Americans contemporary to his audience: "dig in your own back-yard!". RPGT 10% for property sold within 2 years

Budget 2012 also proposed that a real property gains tax (RPGT) of 10% be applied to properties held and disposed of within two years. Meanwhile, the rate of 5% will be maintained for properties sold within the third, fourth and fifth years after purchase. The current RPGT, imposed after Budget 2010, is 5% for all properties sold within the first five years of purchase. Following the budget announcement, industry observers opined that the 5% increase in the RPGT, for units sold within the first two years after purchase, would have little impact on speculative activities in the property market and escalating house prices. Affordable homes for low to middle income earners

Hope there is more opportunity like this for the low to middle-income earners  to buy house. The house pricing are soaring like mad now. Affordable homes for the masses Various initiatives have been put in place under Budget 2012 to make house ownership more affordable. The maximum price of houses under the My First Home scheme will be increased to RM400,000 from RM220,000, and eligibility will be through joint loans of husband and wife from January 2012. The 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) will be the sole agency to develop and maintain affordable and quality homes, especially for the middle-income group, and it intends to develop several plots of government-owned land around Sungai Besi and Sungai Buloh for this purpose. PR1MA will also develop areas near public transport system lines, such as the MRT and LRT, for housing. The Government will waive stamp duty on loan instruments for the purchase of PR1MA houses. To prevent the risk of delayed and abandoned housing projec

10% tax on REIT dividends extended 5 years

I'm sincerely looking forward to the 10% abolishment one day. Look at Singapore and Hong Kong - they don't tax for this. 10% tax on REIT dividends extended 5 years The Government has extended the concessionary tax rate of 10% on dividends of non-corporate institutional and individual investors in real estate investment trusts (REITS). The incentive, which expires on Dec 31, will be extended for five years, starting from Jan 1 next year to Dec 31, 2016. "We are very happy with the extension as there was a lack of clarity on what would happen after the expiry,'' said Malaysian REIT Managers Association (MRMA) and Axis-REIT Managers Bhd CEO Stewart LaBrooy. "Earlier, there were concerns as no announcements were made while the date of expiry was drawing close. Now that it has been extended, we can go back to business as usual." Mah Sing Group Bhd managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum said this would promote domestic participation and attract foreign i

New highway linking Kinrara, Serdang and Putrajaya (SKIP)

Expected to be completed in year 2016. Will it really help to ease the congestion on LDP? A highway linking Kinrara, Serdang and Putrajaya with seven interchanges, is in the pipeline. The 17km Serdang-Kinrara-Putrajaya Expressway (Skip) will have three main toll plazas and two on the ramps. The highway, which starts near the Giant Hypermarket in BK 5a in Puchong, will pass by the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve and head towards Taman Lestari Perdana. From this point, the highway will be split into two directions. The first will go through Taman Putra Permai and eventually connect the South Klang Valley Expressway. The second will connect Taman Universiti Indah and Sri Sedang and then link to the Besraya Highway. Its concessionaire and the Malaysian Highway Authority briefed the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) last week. MPSJ councillor Ng Sze Han said the council welcomed the project that would reduce traffic jam in Jalan Besar, Serdang, and part of Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP)

Tony Fernandes acquires 66% stake in QPR

My idol did it yet again! Salute! Tony Fernandes acquires 66% stake in QPR LONDON: Queens Park Rangers (QPR) says Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has completed his takeover of the English Premier League club. Fernandes gained a 66% stake in the London club Thursday by buying out F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone and former Renault F1 team principal Flavio Briatore. Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, the wealthiest person in Britain, retains his 33% stake in QPR, which has just returned to England's top flight after a 15-year absence. Ecclestone is relinquishing control of QPR after five years as the majority owner. Fernandes, 47, who combines his job as chief executive of AirAsia with being an F1 team principal, had previously tried to buy West Ham, the London club he supports. "Everyone knows I've followed West Ham all my life, but I've always had a soft spot for QPR," Fernandes said. "Rangers were one of the first teams I watched as a child at Loftus Road ... QPR

Badminton World Championship 2011 - Final Result

Final Result Lin Dan vs Lee Chong Wei 20-22, 21-14, 23-21 What an exciting match. Lee Chong Wei has come close to beat Lin Dan but missed the 2 crucial match points. I see Lee Chong Wei has improved a lot especially with his cross court smash from the right side of the court. On the other hand, Lin Dan's tactical and net play are far more superior. To me, winning is not everything. So I hope Lee Chong Wei will take the defeat as opportunity to grow stronger for the Olympics 2012.

Badminton World Championship 2011 Final

I will be at Wembley Arena in 30 mins time to watch my countrymen, Lee Chong Wei playing my idol, Lin Dan from China for the Badminton World Championship 2011 final. This is the same venue for next year's Olympics. Malaysia is hoping for LCW to break the record by winning the 1st gold medal ever. Hope to catch some excellent displays by the duo. The best shall win.

Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

My current favourite - I like the melody and the voice of Bruno Mars but not the lyrics. It's so so only. I say [Chorus:] When I see your face There's not a thing that I would change 'Cause you're amazing Just the way you are And when you smile The whole world stops and stares for a while 'Cause girl you're amazing Just the way you are [Verse 2] Her lips, her lips I could kiss them all day if she'd let me Her laugh, her laugh she hates but I think it's so sexy She's so beautiful And I tell her everyday Oh you know, you know, you know I'd
