AirAsia and Jetstar deals on

I wonder how's the deal gonna work out ... PETALING JAYA: The proposed partnership between AirAsia Bhd and Jetstar is nearing fruition after a year of talks and the deal will be announced in the first week of January. A media conference has been scheduled for Jan 6 in Sydney where both parties and Qantas will announce the details of a strategic agreement and how these parties will work "innovatively together'' so as to drive greater cost efficiencies across AirAsia and Jetstar. One route that may be shared is the KL-Sydney sector which AirAsia has failed thus far to get rights to ply. Jetstar, even though it has stopped plying the route since September 2008, has the rights. Will that rights be shared by AirAsia? The Kangaroo route (from any Australian point to KL and on to Europe) is a possible route that these airlines will capitalise on and with the partnership, AirAsia will be able to offer connectivity all over Australia via Jetstar Australia and it can tak

The most precious gifts of life from you

I feel so touched when reading this piece of news. Personally, I'm so glad to have registered as an organ donor this year and hope when I'm gone one day, at least I still could contribute something to the needy. Kudos to those who have pledged for organ donation. For those who have not, I sincerely urge you to consider this. This could be the most precious gift of life from you. KUALA LUMPUR: As people were busy counting down to Christmas, the parents of a 17-year-old boy made a generous decision that gave what could be the best present to at least three people. The boy had been declared brain dead by doctors at Selayang Hospital after a road accident on Dec 20. The parents' decision set off a chain of events which eventually saw their son's kidneys transplanted to two young patients — a girl and a boy, both 16 — and his liver given to a three-year-old girl. The operation was carried out at the Selayang Hospital from 9pm to 5am on Christmas Day. Besides the li

Falling in Love with Sara Bareilles - Gravity

Love at first heard. And that was my memory. Now I'm just too drown with it. Sara Bareilles - Gravity MP3 download Something always brings me back to you It never takes too long No matter what I say or do I'll still feel you here Till the moment I'm gone You hold me without touch You keep me without chains I never wanted anything so much Than to drown in your love And not feel your reign [Chorus] Set me free, leave me be I don't want to fall Another moment into your gravity Here I am And I stand so tall Just the way I'm supposed to be But you're on to me And all over me You loved me 'cause I'm fragile When I thought that I was strong But you touch me for a little while And all my fragile strength is gone. [Chorus] I live here on my knees As I try to make you see That you're everything I think I need Here on the ground But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go The one thing th

Another gruesome murder of young girl

I'm so sorry to hear this gruesome murder of young girl. Hope the murderer could be arrested soon and be severely punished for his act. KUALA LUMPUR: Fresh fears about a ruthless sexual predator have been ignited following the gruesome murder of a girl who is believed to have been raped, sodomised and then dumped into a retention pond. Sources said a post-mortem on the body yesterday showed that she could have been sexually assaulted prior to being strangled. There were injuries on her private parts. Questions are being raised if the monster who brutally raped and murdered nine-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin in 2007, is back after lying low for two years. The Nurin case remains unsolved. Another girl, Sharlinie Mohd Nashar, five, has been missing from her Taman Medan home since Jan 9, 2008. Police are not confirming anything, apart from saying that a full-scale investigation has been launched into the latest murder, and that police stations throughout the country had been

Michael Schumacher back to F1

Michael Schumacher is making a come back to F1. Am sure his returns will make F1 more interesting. The major question would he be as successful as when he lifted the championship titles for few years before his retirement in 2006? How is the newer generation newer drivers like the recently crown F1 champion - Jenson Button, the famous Lewis Hamilton etc seeing him being the new rival? How is the new team - Malaysia's Lotus F1 gonna fare? The greatest driver in the history of Formula One is coming back to racing. Seven-time champion Michael Schumacher announced on Wednesday that he would drive for Mercedes which took over the Brawn GP team that won the team and individual driver titles in 2009. Schumacher will receive a reported $10 million to race in 2010 with the idea of making a three-year commitment. "It's not a one-off thing," he said in a conference call. The deal reunites Schumacher with Ross Brawn who was the technical director for Schumacher during his sev

Next IPO to watch out - JCY

JCY to offer 25.9pc shares in listing 2009/12/09 JCY International Bhd, planning what may be Malaysia's second-largest initial public offering in six years, may offer 25.9 percent of its stock in its IPO. JCY's stockholders plan to offer as many as 530.2 million shares, the maker of hard-disk drive components said in a prospectus filed to Malaysia's Securities Commission today, without specifying any price or timing. Of the total, 89 percent of the shares will be offered to institutional investors and the remainder to individuals, it said. The sale may raise as much as RM1 billion (US$295 million), the Edge newspaper reported on Dec 5, citing unidentified people. That would make it the second-largest IPO in six years in Malaysia, where the benchmark index has risen 44 per cent this year, after Maxis Bhd.'s record RM11.2 billion offering last month. JCY International Chairman Rozali Mohamed Ali yesterday declined to confirm the reported IPO size. "It will be

6 cent per share for now. Does that mean 1.26% dividend yield?   Maxis: A Dividend Surprise KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Maxis Bhd's maiden post listing interim dividend of six sen per share for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2009 was a pleasant surprise as the market expected that to happen only in the financial year of 2010, said OSK Investment Research. The country's biggest mobile operator declared an interim single-tier tax exempt dividend of six sen per ordinary share for the year, payable on January 15 next year. The company posted a higher net profit of 28 per cent year-on-year for the first nine months of 2009 and 1.0 percent year-on-year hike for the third quarter. "Year-to-date, its earnings made up 70 per cent of our full-year forecast and 72 per cent of consensus," the research house said in its note here Tuesday. Maxis's revenue also expanded by two per cent quarter-on-quarter, reversing the two consecutive quarters of contraction,

Maxis Q3 profit 28%, paying 6 cents dividend

Yes! Going to draw my first dividend of 6 cents per share. Maxis profit jumps on mobile ops PETALING JAYA: Maxis Bhd's net profit for its third quarter ended Sept 30 jumped 28.1% to RM615mil against the previous corresponding period supported by growth in its total mobile subscription. Revenue inched 1.74% up to RM2.16bil from a year ago. Chief executive officer Sandip Das said the higher revenue was primarily due to the 3% increase in mobile subscription, bringing the total to 11.7 million. "The third quarter saw healthy net additions of 312,000 driven by pre-paid and wireless broadband subscriptions," he said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday. Post- and pre-paid average revenue per user remained stable at RM103 and RM41 respectively for the period under review. Govt may impose GST at 4%

Govt is making more money again .... ! I foresee the impact of GST would make the poor people become poorer. KUALA LUMPUR: The government plans to impose goods and services tax (GST) at 4%, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah. "We are replacing the current sales and services tax, which is currently at 5% to 10%," he told reporters at the Culture, Ideas and Values Workshop organised by Foundation For the Future at Country Heights Resorts in Kajang. He said the GST implementation was important for the country's future. "The revenue source must be sustainable. If we can get sustainable revenues, we can get a good budget," he said. He said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) would not increase as a result of the GST implementation. Some selected items especially essential goods like rice, sugar, cooking oil and flour as well as domestic transportation would not be subject to GST. World’s top 4 killer diseases

All these 4 are caused by our lifestyles and can be prevented. Let's change the way we live for the betterment of our health before it's too late. KUALA LUMPUR: Heart diseases, chronic respiratory conditions, cancer and diabetes have been named the world's top four killer diseases – more fatal than infectious illnesses like AIDS and influenza A (H1N1). United Nations University-International Institute for Global Health director Tan Sri Dr Mohamed Salleh Mohamed Yasin said such a revelation was frightening because these diseases were "highly preventable" and were due to lifestyle choices . "Such non-infectious diseases or chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs), also contribute to 60% of all deaths worldwide . "It is twice the number of the combined deaths caused by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, maternal and perinatal conditions and nutritional deficiencies," he told reporters at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Non-Executive Directors earns well

Good earning. I also want to be NED one day! Are Malaysia's non-executive directors' overpaid? PETALING JAYA: KPMG's pioneer annual study this year on non-executive directors' (NEDs) profile, practice and pay revealed that they were remunerated on average RM89,000 a year and that half of the NEDs' package comprised fees with allowances, other emoluments and benefits-in-kind making up the balance. The study was based on the review of the latest annual reports (financial years 2008 and 2009) of the 300 largest companies (by market capitalisation) on the main market and top 30 companies on the ACE market. The study took four months and was completed in July. KPMG partner (audit) David Lim said the indepth study provided some interesting statistics and information on the current status quo of NEDs. "For instance, remuneration of an NED in the finance sector of government-linked companies (GLCs) averaged RM218,000 per annum and for a non-GLC NED it was RM1

Can you work from home without going to office?

The answer is cannot while I'm working with this current company as this concept would not be acceptable by the management. But I'm aiming to work from home in my next role. Or if I have to check in to office, I would go for flexi or non-ordinary working hours eg. 7 am - 4 pm or 1 pm - 10 pm. The Public Works Department recently allowed 35 of its draughtsmen to work from home for three months. The Chief Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan has given his nod of approval, stating that the work-from-home concept is workable if employees have the integrity to do the work at home as well as it would have been done in the office. The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, says: "The civil service is a very big organisation that is outcome-driven, and if working from home will increase productivity, that is something we will definitely recommend to the Government." Dubai World to defer payment shocking US markets

With the onset of a global recession, Dubai's real estate market declined after a six-year boom. On November 25, 2009, the Dubai government announced that the company "intends to ask all providers of financing to Dubai World and [its subsidiary] Nakheel to 'standstill' and extend maturities until at least 30 May 2010".[3] The company will also undergo a restructuring process with the help of Deloitte consultants. Several months earlier, Dubai World accounted for a $59-billion debt, nearly three-quarters of the emirate's US$80-billion debt.[4] This includes a US$3.5-billion loan which the company is unable to repay by its December deadline.[5] In response to the government announced moratorium of Dubai World's debts, both Moody's and Standard & Poor's Investors Services heavily downgraded the debt of various Dubai government-related entities with interests in property, utilities, commercial operations and commodities trading. A good read on cervical cancer prevention

A long read but I found it to be very well written. Sunday November 22, 2009 Cervical cancer prevention By Dr MILTON LUM The prevention of cervical cancer has to be carried out by various measures, all of which are necessary if we are to achieve the success of many developed countries in reducing the incidence and mortality from cervical cancer. THE prevention of any disease can be primary or secondary. The former involves taking action on the determinants of the disease to prevent it from occurring. The latter involves the early detection of disease, followed by appropriate interventions to prevent its progression. There has been considerable media publicity about the prevention of cervical cancer in the past six months. Most of it has focused on the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine, which has been called a cervical cancer vaccine, although there is no such vaccine available anywhere in the world. Cervical smears have resulted in a steady decline in the incidence and mortalit

AS1M subscription still open - is it worth invest?

Shoud I buy? How would be the return of this fund? Is it 3.7 - 4%? Is it worth to invest? KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) said today the Chinese community subscription quota of Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS1M) unit trust scheme has touched 80 per cent. The Indian community quota has reached 20 per cent, said PNB Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said. The Chinese were allocated 30 per cent of the 10 billion units, 15 per cent to Indians and five per cent to other ethnic groups. Subscription by Bumiputeras, who were allotted 50 per cent units, was still low probably due to the wide choice of buying from other unit trust schemes like Amanah Saham Bumiputera, also managed by PNB. He, however, did not state the percentage. He was asked on the subscription progress of AS1M unit trust scheme launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on July 31. On whether the quota system would be scrapped and open to all races

A woman loss her insurance benefits just because of Facebook

Moral of the story: careful on what you post on Facebook! Canada woman to fight insurance company over Facebook MONTREAL: A Canadian woman on sick leave for depression says she will fight an insurance company's decision to cut her benefits after her agent found photos on Facebook of her vacationing, at a bar and at a party. Nathalie Blanchard said Monday she was diagnosed with major depression and was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits until payments dried up this fall. When Blanchard called her insurance provider, Manulife, to find out why, she says she was told the Facebook photos showed she was able to work. "If you have insurance, be careful. This is a major battle and it's not going to be easy," Blanchard, 29, said in a telephone interview from her home in Bromont Quebec. She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on Facebook, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party a

Q3: Not a good one for Dell

20 November, 08:01 Dell profit falls 54%, shares down SAN FRANCISCO: Dell Inc. said Thursday that its net income dropped 54 percent in the latest quarter and amid signs the company isn't fully benefiting from the computer industry's fledgling recovery. Dell's numbers missed Wall Street's forecasts, and the shares fell almost 6 percent in extended trading. In the last quarter Dell lost its ranking as the world's No. 2 personal computer maker, a slot now held by Taiwan's Acer Inc. Dell rivals such as Acer and Hewlett-Packard Co. have stolen market share in part by exploiting their bigger presence in retail stores. That has been a big weapon because consumer interest in little laptops called "netbooks" has helped the PC industry start to pull out of its worst slump in years. Instead, Dell gets 80 percent of its business from corporations, government agencies and other large institutions, which have remained hesitant to spend money on

More drama in MCA

Maxis IPO at RM 5.20

I'm buying Maxis again. Yeah, it's about the good sentiment. KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — The mobile phone empire of Malaysian billionaire Ananda Krishnan launched an initial public offering Wednesday to raise at least $3.4 billion in the biggest share sale in Southeast Asia. Maxis Berhad, the top mobile company in Malaysia, is offering for sale 2.25 billion existing shares, representing 30 percent of its total equity, it said in a prospectus. The indicative price of 5.20 ringgit ($1.50) a share would raise 11.7 billion ringgit in total. Of the 30 percent stake, only 2.83 percent will be offered to retail investors while the rest will be sold to local and foreign institutional investors, the company said. The share sale marks the return of Maxis to the Malaysian bourse two years after it was taken private in 2007 by tycoon Ananda Krishnan — the world's 62nd richest individual, according to Forbes. Its relisting followed a request by Prime Minister Najib Razak who is seeking to

Under the review announced by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, the import duties of all completely-built-up (CBU) and completely-knocked-down (CKD) cars will be maintained. Incentives and exemptions will be increased to develop local auto parts so that there would no longer be parts imports by 18 months' time, a move which help do away with imported and used spare parts outfits. Vehicles which are 15 years and above would also have to go through mandatory testing to ensure their roadworthiness but provisions would be made for vintage cars, he told a press conference to announce the long-awaited review of

Whitney Houston - I Look To You As I lay me down Heaven hear me now I''m lost without a cause After giving it my all Winter storms have come And darkened my sun After all that I've been through Who on earth can I turn to I look to you I look to you After all my strength is gone In you I can be strong I look to you I look to you Yeah And when melodies are gone In you I hear a song I look to you After losing my breath There's no more fighting left Sinking to rise no more Searching for that open door And every road that I've taken Lead to my regret And I don't know if I'm gonna make it Nothing to do but lift my head I look to you I look to you Yeah And when all my strength is gone In you I can be strong I look to you I look to you Oh yeah And when melodies are gone In you I hear a song I look to you (My levee's have broken, my walls have come) Coming down on me (Crumbl

No Boundaries - I prefer Adam Lambert's version

I prefer Adam Lambert's version over Kris Allen's one. Adam Lambert - No Boundaries (2009) Seconds, hours, so many days You know what you want but how long can you wait? Every moment lasts forever When you feel you lost your way And what if my chances were already gone? Started believing that I could be wrong But you give me one good reason To fight and never walk away With every step you climb another mountain Every breath it's harder to believe You make it through the pain, weather the hurricanes To get to that one thing Just when you think the road is going nowhere Just when you almost gave up on your dreams They take you by the hand and show you that you can There are no boundaries! There are no boundaries! I fought to the limit to stand on the edge What if today is as good it gets? Don't know where the future's headed But nothing's gonna bring me down I've jumped every bridge and I've run every line I've risked being saved but I always knew why

Intervention from Najib, I guess :) KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek have set aside their differences and agreed to work as a team. The move, Ong said, was a breakthrough that would unite the party and help resolve issues concerning its leadership. Ong read out a statement to the media in the presence of Dr Chua and other MCA leaders at the party headquarters at Wisma MCA here yesterday. This is the first time both Ong and Dr Chua have appeared together at a press conference after some time. Both have been at loggerheads since party elections last year when Ong was elected president and Dr Chua his deputy. Ong said Dr Chua had agreed to work with him without setting pre-conditions. Describing it as the "greater unity plan," Ong said it had received the blessing and support of the Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Ong said Najib had been briefed o
