Astro dividend yield doesn't look good

Dividend yield of 2.3% based on the RM 3 IPO price - is too low. Really need to review this stock again. "However, the current dividend yield is not that exciting and though the yield, at 2% , should jump to 3% in one or two years, it may not be exciting enough" he added. Affin valued Astro's dividend yield for the financial year 2015 to be 3.1%, from the current 2.3% calculated based on the RM3 IPO price. Source: The Star

Consider to change from Maxis to Celcom

Maxis mobile line network coverage at my home area has been deteriorating. Many complains have been to Maxis but so far no action from Maxis to rectify the issue. Thus am considering to change to Celcom once I find out more infos and if switching telco will help. Not considering DiGi as used to have bad experience on the network coverage and likely up to EDGE speed only. Maxis's strong points and why I have been with it: Cheap IDD to Singapore (via IDD 132) Credit sharing among the Family lines Best postpaid package in town - spending about RM 90 monthly for voice 333 mins (assume average RM 0.15/min) and data 500 MB Some consolation points: Network coverage is only bad at home area. Other areas are fine Have home Internet and land line as backup

Astro closed at RM 3 on debut

I thought it will go up to around RM 3.30 (10%) but looks like the sentiment is not encouraging. (Reuters) - Pay-TV firm Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd closed flat in a weak market debut Friday on concerns its valuation was too high, underperforming other recent big listings as Kuala Lumpur's booming IPO market looked set to lose steam next year. But after such a robust 2012, and with Astro's $1.5 billion sale marking the last major listing until the first quarter of next year, the market is expected to cool off. Astro shares rose as much as 3.7 percent before erasing gains to close at 3.00 ringgit, unchanged from the offer price in Malaysia's third-biggest IPO this year. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a rise of at least 6 percent. The IPO by Astro, controlled by Malaysia's second-richest man Ananda Krishnan, followed Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd's $3.3 billion offering in June and IHH Healthca...

Being old and abandoned - time to reflect

It's very disheartened to read this - time to reflect. Old, abandoned — and they only have each other KUALA LUMPUR: Many of the abandoned senior citizens have lost hope of ever seeing their families again, but some have not lost faith in each other. After arriving at the Tong Sim old folks home from various hospitals, they have put their skills to good use to help one another. Owner Cheong Loy said most of the 52 inmates were sent to the centre located above a casket shop in Sungei Besi when the hospitals could not trace their family members. "In most cases, family members gave false addresses and contact numbers. The hospitals asked us to take them in," he said at the home. However, instead of depending on outsiders to care for them, they now work together to keep the home running. Although volunteers regularly donate food and help clean up the place, the residents themselves do most of the household chores. "Those who are fit help to feed an...

Malaysia Budget 2013: RPGT hike 5%

Under Budget 2013, the Government has proposed the RPGT from the disposal of properties made within a period not exceeding two years from the date of purchase will be taxed at the rate of 15% and at 10% for disposal of property within a period of two to five years. This represents an increase from the present RPGT regime, where RPGT of 10% is applied to properties held and disposed of within two years, and a rate of 5% was maintained for properties sold within the third, fourth and fifth years after purchase. Badminton Japan Open 2012 Final - Koo-Tan lost

Am happy to see our XD bagged their 1st SS championship while for LCW, I expected him to win without LD :) Very disappointed with Koo Kien Keat / Tan Boon Heong though. Being seeded number 2, they lost to the 7th seed South Korean in pair in 33 minutes! They asked to maintain their partnership and BAM allowed it the next World Championship. I wonder if that is the right decision. Chong Wei takes men's singles, Koo-Tan go down to S. Koreans KUALA LUMPUR: National number one mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying won their first-ever BWF Super Series title when they defeated Muhammad Rijal-Liliyana Natsir of Indonesia 21-12, 21-19 in the Japan Open badminton championships in Tokyo on Sunday. The top seeded Malaysian pair were in fine form in the final as they overcame the fifth seeded Indonesians in just 32 minutes. Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei fended off the challenge from Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana to win the men's singles title. ...

I Have a Date with Autumn (2012), a Hong Kong Musical Theatre

How I wish this stage show to take place slightly later during when I am in Hong Kong. I Have a Date with Autumn by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Seasons come and go, the date with love is here to stay. A theatre classic back on stage after 20 years of anticipation. Raymond To continues his legacy in a heart-warming sequel. Singer-composer Hins Cheung joins four beloved Divas of Flower Palace to ignite theatrical fireworks this Autumn. An Uplifting Start to the 35th Anniversary Celebration. Two decades ago, I Have a Date with Spring made history in local theatre as a box office and critical success. Award-winning playwright Raymond To continues his legacy in a sequel to the celebrated theatre classic. The story has now moved to the golden era of Canto Pop. Now a young talented musician, Danny is going through a chapter of life feeling demoralised and unmotivated, neglecting those who care and admire him, all because of a lost romance. Lance Armstrong stripped off titles and banned

I used to watch LTDF in my prime time and this is one of the most prestigious event in the cycling sports.  Very disgraced to the sports if this is true. NEW YORK, (AFP) - American cyclist Lance Armstrong will be stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from cycling for life, US Anti-Doping Agency chief Travis Tygart said Thursday. The decision came after Armstrong announced he was dropping his fight against USADA's charges that he used performance-enhancing drugs to win the most prestigious event in the sport from 1999 to 2005. Tygart told AFP that Armstrong would be stripped of all his results dating back to August 1, 1998. He called the move a "sad day" for the sporting world but expressed hope that it would help create a "level playing field" for future athletes. "It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and our athletic heroes," Tygart said in a separate written statement. "This is a heart...

EPF age 60 withdrawal

http://thestarmobile.com/jsp/news/viewNews.jsp?newsID=259422&catID=1 Age 60 withdrawal option after EPF Act amended next year PUTRAJAYA: Starting next year, private sector employees who work until the extended retirement age of 60 will have the option to withdraw their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings at the same age. An amendment to the EPF Act 1991 will be carried out to facilitate this regulation, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said. Under the amendment, the EPF will also compel those who work until the age of 60 to continue to contribute to their EPF savings throughout their term of employment. The amendment is in line with the private sector Minimum Retirement Age Bill 2012, which was passed in Parliament in June. The Bill stipulated that the minimum retirement age in the private sector be raised from 55 to 60 years old. "The EPF, after deliberations with the ministry, has decided that a 30% EPF withdrawal can be made at age 50 and the remaini...

Eight Badminton players disqualified

For the sake of chasing the medal, this tactic is such a disgrace to the spirit of Olympics. There is also question on why the organizing committee proposed for such format in the beginning that allowed for abuse? Badminton players thrown out By Mike Collett-White and Ian Ransom LONDON (Reuters) - Eight women badminton players were disqualified from the Olympics on Wednesday for deliberately trying to lose and manipulate the draw, angering fans and fellow athletes who said they undermined the spirit of the Games. National euphoria was tempered by Tuesday night's farcical events, however, when at Wembley Arena in London the crowd shouted abuse at badminton players who deliberately sprayed shots and duffed serves. Four doubles pairs from China, South Korea and Indonesia were disqualified following a formal disciplinary hearing by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). An appeal by the South Koreans and Indonesians was turned down. The players involved were Chin...

Delivering the best performance is what matters

Very true. Win or lose, Gold or Silver, it does not matter. I think the most important thing is for LCW to perform his best then the rewards of it - the elusive gold will come thereafter. Misbun: Win or lose, nation should be proud of Chong Wei's achievement UKAY PERDANA: Datuk Misbun Sidek looks as though he has lost some weight during this Ramadan month but his passion for badminton and admiration for his former singles player Lee Chong Wei have not diminished at all. Yesterday, he spoke highly - and with a sense of pride - of Chong Wei's accomplishment in reaching his second consecutive men's singles final in the Olympic Games by setting up a repeat showdown against four-time world champion Lin Dan of China today. In Beijing, under the tutelage of Misbun, Chong Wei became the first Malaysian to reach the final but went down to Lin Dan in a lopsided match. Chong Wei has trained under many coaches but was with Misbun the longest as both enjoyed "a father a...

Samsung vs Apple 1-0

LONDON : Apple has been instructed by a British judge to run ads saying that Samsung did not copy its design for the iPad in the latest twist in the ongoing patent battles between the two tech giants, according to Bloomberg. Judge Birss, who ruled last week that Samsung did not infringe Apple's designs because its Galaxy Tab tablets were not "as cool" as the US company's iPad, said Apple should publish a notice on its website and in British newspapers to correct any impression that the South Korean company copied Apple, Bloomberg said. The notice, which is in effect an advertisement for Samsung, should remain on Apple's website for at least six months, the report said. The judge, however, rejected Samsung's request that Apple be forbidden from continuing to claim that its design rights had been infringed, saying that Apple was entitled to hold the opinion, the news agency said. Samsung said in a statement after the hearing: "...

Jetstar: Not eligible for web check in for exit row seats

I'm flying with Jetstar tomorrow. Booked the 1st row seat. Didn't know I'm not eligible to perform web check in until I got these: Web Check-in is not available for your booking as one or more passengers are seated in an Exit row and not eligible for Web check-in. It is a Safety requirement that customers seated in an Exit row physically check in at the airport counter, in order for staff to assess the suitability for these seats (the minimum criteria is listed at the time of booking). Hmmmm ..... thinking twice if I wanna book 1st row seat next time.

Potential Astro IPO in 2013

KUALA LUMPUR (March 29, 2012): Malaysian tycoon Ananda Krishnan is exploring proposals from investment banks to list Astro All Asia Networks after the country's sole satellite pay-TV monopoly was delisted in a US$2.6 billion deal in 2010, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Thursday. One of the sources, an official with Usaha Tegas, a special purpose vehicle controlled by Ananda, said no decision has been made on the re-listing of the company that was taken private in 2010 after a costly overseas expansion. News of a possible IPO by Ananda, Malaysia's second-richest man, comes on the heels of a US$2.8 billion sale of his power assets and proposal to hive off a stake in his satellite operator MEASAT Global. The IPO could face hurdles partly because of an investigation in India involving Astro and Ananda's telco firm, Maxis, and alleged bribes paid to a government minister and his brother, allegations the companies have denied. "Banks have a...

Living with muscular dystrophy

I feel sad when reading this. Monday March 26, 2012 Supermum needs a home By A. LETCHUMANAN letchu@thestar.com.my BANTING: S. Devigi is a supermum. Not only is she bringing up three children diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, she is also taking care of her brother-in-law, who suffers from the same disease. Muscular dystrophy is a condition where muscles become progressively weak. Undaunted, Devigi is going all out to ensure her children get an education. Beating the odds: Devigi lifting Meghala from a wheelchair at their home at Sungai Maggis in Banting, Klang. Looking on are Abby and Gopi (in white). A few years ago, it was a familiar sight when the 53-year-old housewife put the three children on separate wheelchairs and pushed them to their primary and secondary schools in Banting. Devigi married V. Ugjayan, 52, a close relative in the early 1980s and gave birth to a daughter Nyanamambiga @Abby in 1985 followed by Meghala in 1987 and Gopi in 1988. "The children were heal...
