What is the plan drawn by PR1MA? I have never seen it. If there is no proper planning, how would PR1MA achieves its goal?
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 2 – To address the housing needs of the middle income groups under the 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA), the government has announced many new homes for sale.
Recently, the government announced over 700 apartments to be offered in its Cyberjaya project, managed by Cyberview Sdn Bhd and Gadang Holdings Bhd.
Over the past few months, it has also launched many projects in the Klang Valley area including high-rise apartments in Alam Damai, Cheras, Bukit Jalil, Sungai Besi, Brickfields and Setapak among others.
In total, PR1MA has approved 15 affordable housing projects to be developed in Greater Klang Valley, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.
According to Bernama, the Ministry of Finance stated in its Economic Report 2013/2014 that RM500 million was allocated to PR1MA to build 50,000 homes in prime locations across the country and another RM300 million was to build 30,000 homes in collaboration with private developers.
A total of 320,000 people will own homes under the programme. The homes which will cost between RM100,000 to RM400,000 per unit are expected to be completed in 2016.
While this is a huge effort by the government in addressing the shortage of affordable homes, many aren't quite impressed with the way PR1MA is handling the land issues and are not convinced that the houses will truly be cheap, no matter where the location.
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has cautioned previously that providing cheaper housing is not going to be an easy task for the government, because it is relying on private developers for land.
It was reported that most of the approved projects will be undertaken by private developers, except those in Brickfields, Bukit Jalil and Gelugor which will be solely developed by PR1MA.
