Do you think this is realistic? I personally doubt so. They have been so many talks around. Where are all the actions?
KUALA LUMPUR: PR1MA Corp Malaysia plans to roll out 160,000 affordable homes, under the 1Malaysia People's Housing Scheme (PR1MA) this year, which include 2013's target of 80,000 units.
To meet its 2013 target of building 80,000 affordable homes, PR1MA Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mutalib Alias said it hopes to get approvals to build another 35,000 units from its board of directors.
"Currently, the board has approved 45,000 units, which we hope to complete launching before starting to plan for new projects this year," he told reporters after the launch of Cagamas' 25th Anniversary Book on Housing The Nation: Policies, Issues & Prospects here yesterday.
The 160,000 units are part of the 500,000 to be rolled out by PR1MA Corp, the agency mandated by the government to build affordable homes in the country.
Mutalib also said PR1MA Corp will seek private property developers to obtain more land from them as it has only been allocated 100 acres (40.47ha) by the federal government to build PR1MA homes.
"We need about 2,000 acres [more] to build all the affordable houses [under the PR1MA programme] and thus, we have no choice but to engage with private developers," he said, adding that the corporation has sought the cooperation of developers in Sabah and Sarawak.
Separately, Mutalib told The Edge Financial Daily yesterday that PR1MA Corp hopes to be allocated a parcel of land within the Employees Provident Fund's RM50 billion Kwasa Damansara township project in Sungai Buloh, Selangor for development of PR1MA homes.
Meanwhile, construction and property group Protasco Bhd told Bursa Malaysia yesterday that it had won contracts worth RM88.1 million to build affordable houses under PR1MA in Perak and Negeri Sembilan.
The projects comprise 907 units of onestorey terrace house in Manjung and 237 units in Jelebu.
