KUALA LUMPUR: Fresh fears about a ruthless sexual predator have been ignited following the gruesome murder of a girl who is believed to have been raped, sodomised and then dumped into a retention pond.
Sources said a post-mortem on the body yesterday showed that she could have been sexually assaulted prior to being strangled. There were injuries on her private parts.
Questions are being raised if the monster who brutally raped and murdered nine-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin in 2007, is back after lying low for two years. The Nurin case remains unsolved.
Another girl, Sharlinie Mohd Nashar, five, has been missing from her Taman Medan home since Jan 9, 2008.
Police are not confirming anything, apart from saying that a full-scale investigation has been launched into the latest murder, and that police stations throughout the country had been alerted.
The half-naked body of the girl, believed to be aged between 11 and 13, was found floating in the water retention pond at Lorong Gurney, off Jalan Semarak, on Tuesday.
The body was found by three Kuala Lumpur City Hall workers when they went to the pond to collect garbage at about 11.30am.
The girl, whose identity has not been ascertained, is believed to be a local as there is a BCG vaccination mark on her on arm.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said the four-hour post-mortem conducted by a Kuala Lumpur Hospital pathologist confirmed that the girl died after being strangled with the towel which was found around her neck.
He declined to say if the girl was raped and sodomised, as widely speculated.
"We are still investigating the case and are looking into the matter from all angles, including if she was sexually assaulted," he told a press conference.
ACP Zakaria said no one had lodged a missing persons report involving a girl.
The murdered girl had short dark hair, was 1.22m tall and dark-skinned.
ACP Zakaria said the pathologist had taken samples of her tooth and fingerprints to help in the identification.
"We hope to get results within a week," he said.
